Why is it that....
People don't have the slightest courtesy to let us know, in SOME WAY, that they've checked out of their rooms? It really makes it difficult for us. I've got people mad because I don't have rooms ready to check people into, and the only reason I can't is because the rooms that should be clean aren't showing as checked out. Housekeeping has to go in a lot later than they normally would to see if the people have left, and it slows everything down. Is it REALLY that difficult to dial "0" to tell us you're leaving? Peeve
I REALLY hate it when just because we are located in Chicago, I would possibly give a crap about Chicago sports teams. Its one thing when people actually inquire if I like sports or not, but it just PISSES ME OFF when they come up and say shit like : "can you believe the Bears just lost so and so to the *insert a team here.", "don't you wish the Bears (Cubs, SOx, other shit) win the Superbowl. I dong give a crap; you might as well talk about some Canadian women's hurling team, I won't give a fuck. Now go pick up your stupid complimentary USA today, and leave me alone. Group....From...HELL!
So you all remember a couple days ago when I posted about this bloody Indian group. Well they are still in house, and the did the whole dance thing today and now have been at an afterparty and are milling around, mostly drunk, some super obnoxious, but seriously its 4 am GO TO FUCKING BED! Im sick of hearing them, seeing them, looking at them in any way shape or form. They have been incredibly difficult, not listening to us, and doing what they want. They have brought in large quanties of Booze into the hotel, as well as smoking Pot in the rooms. All I want right now, is peace and quiet as Im running near 48 hours with no sleep and I really dont need to hear screaming teenagers in my lobby at 4 am. No Love! Hello Nascar, my old friend... So, west phoenix was an oozing wound of traffic and mayhem today (and will be so tomorrow as well, joy). My hotel was awash in harried guests checking in, or rushing in to see if we had rooms at the last minute, like Nascar was just announced yesterday, idiots.
We had a new girl working the morning shift, this was only her 3rd day, I understand that there is room for error, and though she has experience with ChoiceAdvantage, some of the errors she made were extremely avoidable, and the kinds of things someone would do who didn't know the full capacity of the functions in ChoiceAdvantage. Anyone who uses it knows that you have to practically tie yourself in a knot to get around some of the error messages, or fulfill one area of pointlessness to complete a task, so I suspect she's not as experienced with it as she claimed she was, or that maybe she just never dealt with certain situations..... If that makes any sense at all. I think other ChoiceAdvantage users can commiserate.
Other than that, everything went surprisingly smoothly, I nearly sold out at a ridiculous rate (I actually felt bad for some of the guests who shelled out the dough on these pocket gouging prices!) and I really think I performed very well under the deluge, I fully expect a few good comment cards. Most of my guests today were genuinely nice people! Surprise surprise. Nascar usually rakes in the jerks. Overall, Nascar Fall 2009 : B+ well done! I'm not dreading April as much anymore. Right on. Also, this is just a shout-out to our housekeepers: You Rock... honestly. Just.. awesome. I'm bringing cookies sometime this week for you guys. |

I just checked in a group of 22 people. They all had roommates assigned to them. You would think they would go with who we were roomming them with. Nope, they all swapped roommates so while I was handing out keys to who I thought were going into the rooms, I had to redo them when people found the rooms I had given them were already occupied with other people from the group. For the most part they were alright with it if a bit annoyed. Eventually the group leader had to go to the rooms to find out who was where and I had to wind up making a whole new rooming list. |

Ok I need an opinion...
Back in September I went to Minnesota for a wedding and stayed in a Comfort Inn. Got the standard employee rate. The problem began when I got home, I started itching. Not bed bugs because of the lack of blood. BUT SCABIES! So my doctor diagnosed me with. And thank God it's nothing else. So here's the thing. Of course I'm going to alert the hotel. But should I get pissy and demand my money back, which some of my fellow hotel workers think I should. Or just advise them and leave it at that. Current Mood: ITCHYCurrent Music: Jason Mraz |

Paperless Check-ins?
Is anyone using NiteVision with the signature pads and driver's license scanners? I've got them hooked up in hopes of being able to do paperless check-ins, but I'm having a LOT of trouble with the driver's license scanners- they scan Wyoming licenses correctly about 1 time out of 10. Remco says it's a calibration issue, but I calibrate and calibrate without any luck. If I can't get this resolved, I'll have to go back to paper, which I hate to do, since this system has so much potential. The other problem is that I can't get the captured signature to show up on the folio or the receipt- I can view the captured signature, but can't print it out in any way, which makes it useless as proof of signature, since I can't fax it. And the stupid signature pad pens have INK in them, so now the pads have marks all over them already. Grr. Any thoughts? |

For a change
Wow, I am actually NOT writing about stabbing someone in the throat for douchebaggery So rare when we have nice people. Ppl called, they got lost, and were asking for directions. The guy didnt interrupt, wasnt a rude douchebag, and APOLOGIZED (!) when I got him lost! I felt so bad, cause I told him to turn left instead of right. But he was very nice and courteous. He got here a while later with his fam, who were also very nice. I talked to him and his daughter for a while, and just seriously wanted to hug them and give them a free room. Sometimes its times like this that make it worthwhile. (altho I love my job nonetheless :) Thinkin of goin out of my way, and finding some coupons online for them to use when they go downtown. Just such nice down to earth people (from TN) Current Mood: grateful |

Groups
So Nothing pisses me off more than groups. Now don't get me wrong, well put together, quite, and responsible groups, I have no problem with. Sadly this group tonight, well so far has been a diffrent story. They are an Indian dance group(not Injun, the other kind) and they have been loud and very very annoying. First off, they are all made under 3 names so every person showing up has to wait for their friends to show up so they can check in, seriously, how hard is it to get a rooming list?! Then when I was coming into work, I watched one of the rooms check in and he had 3 half gallons of Vodka... 3! Thats an ass ton of Potato Juice! When I checked in some of the rooms later in the night I warned them too, that they already had one noise complaint from their room mates and Security has the will and want to kick them out of here if they were being noisy, Yep, 2:30 rolls around and they all come back from the club, drunk and stupid. Finally we did end up kicking one of the rooms out and the second room got let back in on the simple fact that they had only been here for an hour and a half. Seriously though, I have been part of conventions, and know how it is to see people you havnt seen in a while, but after midnight, calm the F down and be quite and remember for the love of all that it holy, you are not the only person stayin in the hotel. Edit : Though my security is getting the I'm Taking my ball and going home attitude which is getting Fn Old Current Mood: irritated |

LiveJournal Major Notes: Notes, Tweaks, Bug Kills, LJ_Cares!
Notes augmented
We've enhanced and de-bugged Notes. If you haven't tried it yet, now's the time! You can create a private note when you ban multiple users. You can also delete multiple notes at once. Lastly, paid users have the option to add a note (visible only to you) whenever you add or remove a friend (guaranteed to avoid embarrassing social mishaps). If you don't currently have a paid account, you can upgrade now! It only takes a few minutes and costs less than a bad shopping mall haircut (plus, it's way more fashionable)!
Product tweaks and bug kill
- In another effort to zap spam, comments containing links from domains LiveJournal deems untrustworthy are now automatically screened
- If you sign up to get notifications of the Writer's Block question of the day, you'll now see the daily question in the email notification, so you'll have a little extra time to ponder before you post. You can subscribe to Writers Block notifications here
- The issue causing random comments to vanish has been fixed!
- If you visit a LiveJournal page and get prompted to log in, you'll be returned to the same page after you sign in (Thanks, Dreamwidth)!
- If you don't edit the timestamp for an entry at all, the entry timestamp will indicate the time the entry was posted instead of the time the Update Journal page was loaded
- Comments with paddings/backgrounds render correctly within the comment box (and will no longer wrap outside the box and break frames/margins)
New FCK fixes rich text editor!
- We've updated our RTE (Rich Text Editor) to FCKeditor version 2.6.5
- When switching from the RTE to HTML editor, links for syndicated feeds are no longer broken
- RTE now functions properly in Safari 4.0
- An extra line/space will not be auto-inserted whenever you switch from RTE to HTML editor
- The insert image link now works correctly in all browsers
LiveJournal Cares
We’re pleased to introduce you to lj_cares, a new LiveJournal community dedicated to raising awareness and funds for U.S. charitable organizations that improve the health and well-being of people around the world. Each month, we’ll spotlight a nonprofit that is making a significant global impact through medical research, public outreach, and/or humanitarian social programs. Charities will be selected in accordance with the U.S. calendar of national health observances based on a high rating (of over 60%) on Charity Navigator and global scope of impact.

In this, our inaugural month of November, we will celebrate national adoption month by offering a charitable virtual gift (priced at $2.99) to support Love Without Boundaries, an organization that saves the lives of orphans with life-threatening diseases and places them in loving homes around the world. LiveJournal will donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of charitable vgifts (we'll cover the cost of credit card transaction fees). To learn more about Love Without Boundaries, please visit lj_cares and read about how they helped save Baby Kang and the Rainbow Twins from fatal illnesses, who are now thriving in nurturing families. You can purchase your Love Without Boundaries gifts in the Virtual Gift shop.
Papered in postcards
A couple of weeks ago, we asked you to send in postcards to surround us with LiveJournal community. Thanks for coming through! We've received postcards all the way from Germany, Finland, and Canada and from all over the US, including Texas, Florida, Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Indiana, Hawaii, and Oklahoma just to name just a handful. We're thrilled with our improved decor.

Please keep the love coming for one more week by writing to Frank the Goat, Esq., c/o LiveJournal, Inc., 539 Bryant Street, Suite 210, San Francisco, CA 94107. Be sure to include your username, since we'll be drawing the names of ten random contributors next Thursday to win paid account credits!

Dear guest staying here, I am sorry the ATM doesn't seem to want to take your debit card, but I cannot use it to give you cash. It is against hotel policy. What's that, you're a high level Priority Club member and you are best friends with the GM? Good for you, but that still won't make me go against hotel policy. What, you're going to talk to the GM and my Front Desk manager tomorrow? Great, I'm sure they'll point out to you that it is indeed against hotel policy and there are no exceptions even for pompous wind bags like yourself. Sincerely, Nightauditguy Note: I did point out a few nearby ATMs he could use |

Network Maintenance: Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 04:00-06:00 UTC/GMT EDIT@08:16 UTC/GMT. Wow. That was ugly. I expected it to go for 30 minutes and have maybe 1 minute of broken connectivity. Instead it lasted over 4 hours and we had 10 minutes of downtime directly related to the load balancer upgrades and then another 5-10 minutes of downtime when our primary Pingback database server crashed and the secondary couldn't take over; which could have been indirectly caused by the network upgrade missing a self-VIP. Anyways, we're up, we're working, the load balancers are barely breaking a sweat right now and I need some food and a shot of whiskey. I don't even *like* whiskey!! Thanks mhwest and dnewhall for helping out! --- On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice. Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials. We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait! As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work. |

Night Auditor isn't as smart as a fifth grader
God I love unemployment! Check comes every two weeks, work odd jobs for cash and wake up hung-over to see some душ lose "I'm smarter than a fifth grader". What a mouth breather! Speaking of night auditors, I applied for a position as such and priced myself out of their range so I could keep collecting. I know the manager; it was a cool deal. I saw the night auditor I fired last summer walk in after me. I turned around and said to the hiring manager "He's a brilliant accountant, but I fired him last summer for showing up two and a half hours late. Six times." He's not even a nice guy so I don't feel sorry. OH! Unemployed allowed me to go to an uncle's funeral. I got a coupon book at a rest area on I-84 west. WOW! cheap prices for highway motels! About 1/2 for beach places in the winter. Current Mood: awakeCurrent Music: News |

LJ novice looking for constructive advice and creative partnerships.
I have a alternative community network brand concept with assets I wish to share without my attempts being considered SPAM as was my prior post. I am not the most articulate so you may see my need to solicit help thus my intention in joining this community. Ultimately I wish to develop partnerships with those who can mutually benefit. If there is another LJ community which my project is better suited, please advise. Your constructive input will be most appreciated. Thank you. What Is This...
Remember this guy? We got a score sheet thing from Medallia, courtesy of him. Tons of 1's on everything, no comments. It was left out for me to read, I assume. Left this in the notebook as a response: You'll remember this is the guy who came up to the desk, pointed at me a lot, blustered a bit, but refused to say what it was I was doing wrong. He has stayed here before, so I suggest we DNR list him. If whatever I'm doing to him is too horrible to speak (or even write) of, then maybe he needs to stay somewhere else. Ok, get this.
We've got a lady that doesn't want housekeeping in her room. She brought all her own sheets, pulled up in a huge truck and brought in a folding table, chairs, pillows, a beanbag chair 4 cats and a ton of groceries, plates, knives, forks, dishsoap, spoons, bowls and a bag of toiletries and cleaning supplies. She left VERY specific instructions that housekeeping is not to enter her room, she's not to get phone calls, she'll call with her towel order for the day and she demanded a DVD player. She's in house for a whole month and the whole reason she doesn't want housekeeping? She's got 6000$ worth of CATS. Yes, the animals' net worth is apparently 6000$. People have already been complaining about her trash piles that she leaves outside every stinkin' day. I really wish we could just kick her out but she's a month's worth of revenue plus the pet fee. I just wish she weren't so crazy demanding. She uses a new dish rag every day, a new bathmat every day and she goes through 4 freakin' washcloths A DAY. ALADIGALGJA! |

I've never posted here before because, well, I hardly ever use LJ. But this incident was so heinous that I feel the need to share it with people who will understand what I'm ranting about. A few weeks ago, I checked in a guy. It was somewhere around three in the morning, so I was a little sluggish. I said hello, he just looked at me. Whatever. It's three in the freaking morning. This guy is probably dead on his feet. I take his ID and his credit card, and try to swipe it. Huzzah, it does not approve. When I tell him this, he grunts at me. Then I look. It's a reward night reservation that he made approximately five minutes before walking in the door. I apologize, hand him back his credit card, and proceed with the check-in. Our elevator is out of order, which makes him grumpy, but I'd been dealing with similarly grumpy people all day. He grumps more when I tell him that he actually got our last room of that type, so I have no control over where his room is located. I apologize again, and let him know that it should be fixed soon. He disappears into the abyss of the third floor, never to be heard from again. ( Or so I thought... ) |

A Recent Compaint!!
A recent complaint we received! No Name: No Date of Stay!! And no Return email to respond to: As I put card in lock to room 145 a guest from room next door said something like "It won't be that one mate". When I entered 1st thing I saw was a haly drunk cup of tea, empty sugar wrappers etc so I thought this must be his mate's room but it wasn't and had been cleaned sort of. Freezing cold room with defective heater. Fan heater provided. Restaurant empty at 2030, no atmosphere - only sound was girl clearing away and scraping plates into a trolley from earlier large table of guests I presume, oh and Room Service guy answering phone in restaurant. I'd be interested to know what one guest complained about as he said " he would be straight up" and later "chef sends his apologies Sir". Menu choice awful - so basic. Bar not permanently attended - again no atmosphere what so ever, oh except guy F'ing and Blinding as Man Utd looked like they were going to lose. Woken about 0645 by continuous fire alarm - some plonker smoking or spraying deodorant outside bathroom no doubt. As no-one told me different and it eventually stopped I got in shower to another surprise. Tried turning knob slowly but nothing came out then presumably sticky valve let go and I got blasted with cold water - lovely start to the day. Again restaurant virtually deserted at breakfast including staff who occassionally floated around with little purpose - certainly no-one bothered checking or refilling Orange Juice jug while I was there. Watched Lady struggle then give up trying to retrieve toast from underneath (and at back) of squeaking toaster machine. Had a fried egg with solid yolk, slice of bread with rock hard butter that I couldn't spread. Then made quick exit via Check-Out. Sorry but won't be coming back! |

Did some TV network run the exposé on housekeepers not properly cleaning hotel room glasses again or are people just more oblivious lately? I've had more people in the past two weeks coming to the lobby for paper cups and paper plates than I have during the past three and a half years I have worked here. We're a Residence Inn. Not only do we provide real glasses, plates, bowls and silverware in each room but we also provide you with a dishwasher and detergent for said dishwasher! They're clean folks... at least until you piss me off and I come down and lick everything. |

Pheonix/Chandler/Sun City, AZ Hello everybody, Hope you all are doing fine this evening. I'm at a Days Inn in the Seattle area. Lived here my whole life and been at the hotel just over a year now. Looking to move to AZ at the beginning of next year sometime. (looking like Feb.) I love my job, my boss, my coworkers & I even love some of my regulars here. So, when I move, I'm hoping to find another hotel that I will enjoy going to work at as well. I could prattle on about my qualifications, but I don't want to bore anyone. I'm looking for any heads up? What to keep in mind in the area? Asking for you to keep me in mind for that time period. I can send a resume if you would like.
Any feedback would be rad.
Stay strong out there, my fellow Front Desk Agents, etc.

I am a front desk clerk I am a Front Desk Clerk … I have advanced degrees in accounting, public relations, marketing, business, computer sciences, civil engineering and Swahili. Of course I have the reservation you made six years ago, even though you do not have a confirmation number and think it was under a name that starts with an "S." It isn't a problem for me to get two connecting, non-smoking, pool side, downstairs outside suites (with two king size beds in each), four rollaways, and yes, I would be happy to install a wet bar in each room and stock them at no charge. Of course it is my fault we don't have a helicopter-landing pad. I am a front desk clerk - I am expected to speak all languages. It is obvious to me that when you booked your room for Friday, that you really meant Saturday. My computer has entrusted me with all our financial information and decisions. Of course I remember that when you were here four years ago we accidentally charged you for a 72 cent long distance call you hadn't made and will make sure it doesn't happen again. I understand that MacGillegetty's Widget Manufacturing Corp. is a vast empire that can make or break our hotel. Yes I am lying when I tell you we have no more rooms available. It's not a problem for me to quickly build two more so we can accommodate you and this time I will include a helipad. I am a front desk clerk - I am quite capable of checking three people in, two people out, taking five reservations, answering twelve telephone calls and unplugging the toilet in 420, all at the same time. I also know where the best vegetarian, kosher, Mongolian BBQ restaurants are. I also know exactly what to see and do in this city in less than fifteen minutes and at no cost. I take personal blame for airline delays, traffic jams, rental car flat tires and the national debt. I should have realized that you meant to make your reservation here and not the "Galaxy Delight Motel" down the street and that you are entitled to the special five dollar discount because you're a member of the Accounting and Bagel Club of North America. Yes I will be happy to cash your Japanese travelers checque for 10,000 yen into Canadian currency. Even though it is Sunday morning, I am constantly aware of the exchange rate for all the world's currencies, after all, I am a front desk clerk. We are expected to smile, empathize, sympathize, console, upsell, downsell, (and know the difference), perform, sing, dance and fix the computer (all at the same time). I am a front desk, I can do all things (and look busy when the boss is nearby). |
